Crash Course: Triathlon Training
Good read for those marathoners looking to try their hand at a triathlon.

** USAT members will have limited spots available tonight at 12:01am.

It’s official. I just went to packet pickup at Jack Rabbit Sports.. they snapped this band on me and gave me my bib and timing chip.. I’ll be competing in the Westchester olympic distance triathlon this Sunday!
Good luck, Marc! It’s a fun race and you’ll have a blast. I know you’ll do great!

I was hit by an out of control speeding car on September 3rd while jogging in downtown Jersey City. I thought getting knocked out of one’s shoes was an old wives tale, though I landed about twenty five feet from my sneakers. I realize how incredibly lucky I am that torn ligaments were the worst injury. Since then, three new ligaments were stuck in my knee, and six months of rehab later - I’m training hard for an endurance event.
While that traumatic evening has given me reason to become a better person, and to naturally want to prove myself - this race isn’t about me. It’s about the many people who have suffered far worse, and for those that still do. It’s difficult to believe that these fundraisers can make a difference, but they do! I’ve come a long way over the last few months and I’m so grateful for all your support. I want to switch the focus to helping others… and, I hope that challenging myself like this will encourage you to throw a few bucks towards finding a cure.
Marc was in crutches just a few months ago, now he’s doing a triathlon. While his accident wasn’t quite as bad as this guy, I like how he’s sort of following in his footsteps.
GO MARC!! My friend Holly is on the team along with a few others I know from previous seasons. I’ll have to come up and cheer yall on!!!

Post Triathlon Goals
I know I haven’t blogged my St. Anthony’s Triathlon post yet (still processing and working on it), but I need to quickly outline my next set of fitness goals so that I nip the post-race depression right in the bud. My blog seems to keep me accountable, so here goes.
After one day off (Monday) from the tri, I was back in the gym Tuesday starting a six-week workout plan from the Women’s Health Big Book of Exercises (I highly recommend this book). It’s two phases, broken into 3 weeks each, and you alternate workout cycles (A & B) three days a week. It should be pretty easy, and help me shed some of the “train gain” I’ve experienced.
Besides that I have softball for the next month or so - GO MONKEYS! And I’ll be ramping the Internet Runners Social Club back up :)
And then the goals after that get a little fuzzy. I know I want to do next year’s NYC Triathlon, but that’s over a year away. My mom suggested that I start doing half marathons regularly, but I guess I’ll reassess that option after this six week plan is over. I also want to start doing yoga to help with stress/anxiety, so I’ll have to fit that in as well.
Overall I feel superfit, but I want to make sure I don’t make the same mistake the third time around and let me fitness escape me by trying to chill out on the training. It has to be a lifestyle, not just a season.
And very special thanks to @rocketboom!
