DJ MY Marathon!! [Update 1]

For those that missed it, here’s the short (sweet) story of DJ My Marathon:

For better or worse I’m asking the general public to DJ my first NYC marathon, since going to run with music this year.

 • Make a donation of $30 to one (or both!) of the charities - CampInteractive + Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
 • Send me your request/dedication
 • Uplift my spirits or totally screw with me during a very long 26.2 mile run
 • I’ll post the final playlist to Spotify
 • And tweet each song and the person who requested it during the marathon

Donate:

OR

Thanks for your support!

DJ My Marathon!!

Welcome to my super-awesome fundraising idea for this year: DJ My Marathon!

I’m back at it again training for a marathon (THE NYC MARATHON!), and raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a participant in their Team In Training program, as well as for Camp Interactive as a team member of Team Interactive, and I’m asking you to help by making a donation to my fundraising campaign.

In addition to asking for a donation, I’m also asking for your support in the form of song.

While I’m selling miles again this year (donate $30 and pick a mile - I’ll be sending out tweets during the marathon), I’m also asking you to DJ My Marathon!

For a donation of $30 you can also request/dedicate a song that will go on my marathon playlist that I’ll be listening to as I run through the 5 boroughs of New York City on November 6, 2011, just 65 days away! I’ll also be tweeting the songs and dedications the day of the marathon, as well as publishing the final marathon playlist on Spotify for people all over the world to enjoy too!

If I hit my goal of 11 minutes per mile, it will approximately take me 288 minutes to reach the finish line. That means I need about 82 songs to make it there! That’s a lot of music!

So please make a donation, request or dedicate a song, and help me reach the finish line!

Please use one of the links below to donate online quickly and securely plus learn more about my progress along the way. You’ll receive a confirmation of your donation by email and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation.

You can either leave a comment with the mile number and song title, or simply email it to me - michelle.deforest[at]gmail.com

OR
http://www.crowdrise.com/cimarathon2011/fundraiser/michelledeforest

Each donation to the LLS helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Nearly 958,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. I am hoping that my participation in Team In Training will help bring them hope and support.

Each donation to Camp Interactive help further their mission to empower inner-city youth through the inspiration of the outdoors and the creative power of technology. When urban teenagers step back into nature and forward into technology they gain invaluable skills, heighten their academic standing, and begin to realize more of life’s possibilities.

On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Camp Interactive, thank you very much for your support, and I greatly appreciate your generosity!

ONE Marathon, TWO Charities.

When can I ever just do something, without really DOING IT?

Check it - I’m running the NYC Marathon (FOR REALS THIS TIME, WITH NO INJURIES), in support of two outstanding charities:

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

and

Camp Interactive

As always, and with everything I pour myself into, meeting my goals is not possible without the support (moral, financial, and otherwise) of all the amazing people in my life, be it friends, family, fellow tumblrs, co-workers, and kind strangers on the Internet.

So, my plea for your support this time around: PLEASE help me reach my goal of raising $6,250 for these deserving charities ($5K for CI, 1,250 for LLS).

Donating is easy. Click one of these links!

Suggested donation: $29 for my 29th birthday on August 30.

Donate specifically to the LLS

Donate specifically to Camp Interactive

Donate via PayPal (Send money to: michelle.deforest@gmail.com)

Donate via Venmo

If donating to PayPal or Venmo, I’ll split the donation between the two charities unless you request otherwise. Once I hit one of the goals, I’ll send the donation to the one I haven’t met yet. Once both goals have been met (and if they generosity continues!) I’ll begin splitting the donations again. (Plz note I won’t be able to issue you a specific tax-deductible receipt if you don’t through PayPal or Venmo, but I will eat the costs of the transactions.

Thanks again for your continued support! <3 you all!!

I was hit by an out of control speeding car on September 3rd while jogging in downtown Jersey City. I thought getting knocked out of one’s shoes was an old wives tale, though I landed about twenty five feet from my sneakers. I realize how incredibly lucky I am that torn ligaments were the worst injury. Since then, three new ligaments were stuck in my knee, and six months of rehab later - I’m training hard for an endurance event.
While that traumatic evening has given me reason to become a better person, and to naturally want to prove myself - this race isn’t about me. It’s about the many people who have suffered far worse, and for those that still do. It’s difficult to believe that these fundraisers can make a difference, but they do! I’ve come a long way over the last few months and I’m so grateful for all your support. I want to switch the focus to helping others… and, I hope that challenging myself like this will encourage you to throw a few bucks towards finding a cure.

Marc was in crutches just a few months ago, now he’s doing a triathlon. While his accident wasn’t quite as bad as this guy, I like how he’s sort of following in his footsteps.

GO MARC!! My friend Holly is on the team along with a few others I know from previous seasons. I’ll have to come up and cheer yall on!!!

6 Days until the Triathlon

Where am I at?

Physically: I think I’m ready. I’ve been training for 5+ months, hit the key workouts, feel strong, and I’m trying to keep loose for the next 6 days with small workouts. However, it will take having a really good day on race day in order for me to set a PR. Asthma hasn’t been my friend all season, and I’m currently on 4 meds to manage it. But as long as I take my inhaler on the bike and focus on yoga breathing while running I should be ok. However, as I’ve learned training with asthma the last few months, there are good days and bad days. There is no doubt in my mind that I will finish, but hopefully I’ll have a good day and knock my previous time out of the park!

Mentally: Prepping. I really need to come to terms with the swim and further flesh out my race plan. Visualizing the race is incredibly important to ensure things go as according to plan as possible on race day. Though as my coaches say, expect the unexpected. As for the swim, I’m physically fit, can swim the mile with no problem, but once in the open water with waves and a ton of people swimming near/on top of you, things get a little tricky. It’s all about relaxing and trying to get in a groove. Personally I know that after about 20 minutes of swimming I’m all warmed up and I can crank out the 2nd half of the mile.

Fundraising: I made it! Thanks to all of you and your support, I’ve hit my fundraising goal of $4600! I was initially hoping to raise $5000, and that hope is still alive, so if you’re so inclined to help find a cure for cancer, please consider a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by donating here: pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/anttry10/mdeforest

As you can see, I’ll do JUST ABOUT ANYTHING to reach my fundraising goal for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This includes SELLING MY BODY!
Prices are listed above, and the purchaser decides what goes there. A website, a twitter handle, a brand name, a seekrit message…
The only rule is that we have to keep it G-Rated.
