Not looking forward to my practice swim today. Ugh, it’s like Westchester all over again :(
The World’s Largest Pool
I want to go to there!…What were the planning meetings for this like?
“Let’s build a giant hotel RIGHT on the ocean!”
“No no. Check it. Let’s build the world’s largest pool. BETWEEN the hotel and the ocean.”
“Yessss! Nailed it.”
Wow, can I use training as my excuse to visit there?

Two-a-Day Triathlon Workout Scheduling
Tips for fitting in more than one workout a day. I’ve been attempting this for a while, but given my recent battle with winter (weather, sickness, etc), I haven’t been making it. Can’t wait for spring to ramp up again.

Ok tumblr friends. I know a lot of you have recently gotten into the workout, eat healthy, lose weight, and tone up mode, but here comes the tough part, winter! So, here’s my solution: At 6:30 tonight you can get talked into training for and completing an endurance event. I’ve hated every winter in NYC since I’ve moved here, so I’m sucking it up, refusing to gain the winter weight, refusing to slip back out of shape, and determined to enjoy this season even though it goes against my very being.
When I went to this meeting 1.5 yrs ago the thought of a marathon seemed impossible, and a triathlon hadn’t even crossed my mind. Now, here I am, signing up for my 3rd event, mentally ready to do my 5th and 6th events. And it all started with this meeting.
So, if you’re up for the challenge, ready to change your life forever (I’m not being redic about this, promise), ready to prove something to yourself, AND do some good in the world, then come meet Strle (!) and myself at 6:30pm. Stephanie will be there too!
Tuesday (TODAY), November 17th @ 6:30pm
630 2nd Ave (b/w 34th & 35th)
Who else in the tumblrverse is coming?
GPOYW: Just swam a mile in salt water with wind, rain, and waves kicking my ass while getting elbowed in the face edition. Not to call attention to this, but salt water can make you a little puffy.
33 hrs to go. I’ve done all that I can do.
- Trained 18 weeks.
- Planned every bit of food and liquid from today until the finish line.
- Thought through the transitions.
- Bathed my bike.
- Packed an insane amount of stuff.
- Dropped off my bike for transport.
- Gathered last minute items (new sunglasses and a flashlight).
- Mentally ran through my race.
- Tapered.
- Went for a (great) 20 minute run with intervals.
- Stretched.
And now it’s time for the second night of quality rest since tomorrow night will be no good. I’ll barely be in bed before 10 and I’ll have to wake up at 3:45am.
Oh, and if you were thinking of coming out, here’s a map. The main event will be near Playland Park (roller coaster rides after?), and above is the run map.
I’m hoping to get just under 4 hrs (3:59 sounds so much better than 4:01), but the forecast calls for rain so we’ll see how fast the bike goes.
I’m in the 8th swim wave starting at 7:27 with a hot pink swim cap, and I expect the day to go something like:
7:30 - swim
8:15 - T1
8:20 - Bike
10:20 - T2
10:25 - Run
11:30 - Finish
Ideally the transitions won’t take 5 minutes, and the bike will go faster, and I’ll feel phenomenal and run 9 minute miles after all of that, but who knows.
The only thing I do know is that after 18 weeks I think I’m ready.
See you guys at the finish line and I’ll holler about the SUNDAY FUNDAY post-race celebration.

Well, crap. We may get a hurricane.
Selfish rant: This is TERRIBLE TIMING. I need to get in my last open water swim before the triathon and it’s scheduled for SATURDAY. I barely have the nerve to swim in the open water as it is. Add waves and there is no way in hell. PLZ STAY AWAY OR STALL OR SOMTHING. Kthx.

I COMPLETED MY ONE MILE SWIM!!! I did it in 44 minutes. Don’t know what that means, but I’m REALLY happy I completed it. With one month to go until the triathlon, the pieces are starting to fall into place.
More on this tomorrow. It’s too late to write extensively :)

Swimming Tonight
Tuesday nights are swim nights, and even though I start having swim practice with the team next week (keeping me completely committed to Tuesday night swims - sorry NY Tech Meetup), I feel that I’m in a good Tuesday night swim groove. In fact, last week I did 44 laps (!!!!!), which is about .34 miles in the pool I was in.
However, my other day for swiming is on Fridays, and that’s a tough one. Thankfully, we have summer Friday’s this year, and my incentive is going to be swimming outside on a beautiful afternoon, and working on my hot one-piece tan.
One thing that stands in my way is finding an outdoor pool suitable to swim laps in - or in other words, not crowded with screaming children on summer break.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a great (preferrably free) outdoor pool in NYC?
