Have you had your skin checked lately?

I had mine checked today and I’m all clear! If you haven’t had yours checked in the last year, get to your doc! It takes all of 2 minutes and could save your life.

Alternative Medicine

So, I’ve been blogging a bit here and there about GERD and how it’s getting in the way of my running everything. I’ve been taking PPI (proton pump inhibitors) regularly for over a year now, and most recently 3 times a day, with still not much relief. After doing a bit of digging, I’ve discovered how bad they are to take long term.

Side effects include restriction of B12, calcium, and protein absorption, lowered immune function in the stomach (hello food poisoning), and increase in the hormone gastrin, which tells your stomach to produce even more stomach acid.

I’m tired, full of Zegerid, Zantac, Tums Ultra, and PeptoBismal, and it’s getting in the way of my marathon training. So, on to the alternative medicines.

Things I’m going to try:

-Acupuncture

-Chiropractor

-Mastic Gum

-Active Manuka Honey

-Betaine HCI

-Aloe vera juice (30 min before every meal)

-A nutritionist specializing in GERD

And then I’m seeing my new doc over at One Medical to see what else they suggest.

If anyone has any other suggestions, bring ‘em on.

Allergies. Blegh.

Incredibly frustrated after my appt this morn with the allergy doctor. I’ll sum things up so that I don’t ramble on.

10 shots > bumps, bleeding, itching…

allergic to dogs (not terribly so, but still!)

turned in my food diary

fussed at for my diet (MY HEALTHY DIET MIGHT I ADD)

no more: salsa, red sauce, coffee, alcohol, chocolate, vinaigrettes, bbq sauce, pizza (wait, I eat well, I swear)

on top of the fried, fatty, spicy, acidic I had already cut out

I mean, how’s a girl supposed to eat this way!?

I was all like: But I’m ITALIAN and FROM THE SOUTH. HOW WILL I GO ON LIVING!?

:/

took away one med, added another, might add one more

I hate meds, so I’m going to buy this sort of amusingly-titled book:

and see if the food lover in me and my stomach can get along for at least a month.

excuse me while I go finish this coffee in my cup…

Babies exposed to high levels of common pesticides in the womb have lower I.Q. scores than their peers by the time they reach school age, according to three new studies.
The studies were financed by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
Research in the 1980s linked childhood lead exposure to lower intelligence, dyslexia, higher risk for dropping out of school and a range of behavioral and developmental problems. As a result of that research, lead was removed from gasoline to prevent exposure from car exhaust, and it was also removed from paints and other consumer products.
“When we took lead out of gasoline, we reduced lead poisoning by 90 percent, and we raised the I.Q. of a whole generation of children by four or five points.’’

Ok, so it seems like the answer to my question, “What are the positive things that might come out of having teeth cut out of my mouth?” are: drugs, drugs, drugs, tv, drugs, ice cream, and drugs.
Vicodin and I don’t get along, milk and I don’t get along, and I don’t have cable, so the MDF equivalent to all of this is Percocet, Pinkberry, and Hulu. Could be worse.
Also, if you feel really, really bad for me, you can cheer me up with flowers or puppies. Preferably puppies that I can keep. And that have really cute bellies.
(Still hoping this doesn’t have to happen, but you know…)

I haven’t weighed myself in at least 3 years. I finally ordered the Withings Scale because:
I want to know what I weigh
It’s stunningly beautiful and something I want to have in my home
I want to see if passive data leads to knowledge and ultimately encourages me to change my behavior for the better

…
I want this so bad. It will be mine by the end of the month. IT HAS TO BE.
