DJ MY Marathon!! [Update 1]
For those that missed it, here’s the short (sweet) story of DJ My Marathon:
For better or worse I’m asking the general public to DJ my first NYC marathon, since going to run with music this year.
- Make a donation of $30 to one (or both!) of the charities - CampInteractive + Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
- Send me your request/dedication
- Uplift my spirits or totally screw with me during a very long 26.2 mile run
- I’ll post the final playlist to Spotify
- And tweet each song and the person who requested it during the marathon

DJ My Marathon!!
Welcome to my super-awesome fundraising idea for this year: DJ My Marathon!
I’m back at it again training for a marathon (THE NYC MARATHON!), and raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a participant in their Team In Training program, as well as for Camp Interactive as a team member of Team Interactive, and I’m asking you to help by making a donation to my fundraising campaign.
In addition to asking for a donation, I’m also asking for your support in the form of song.
While I’m selling miles again this year (donate $30 and pick a mile - I’ll be sending out tweets during the marathon), I’m also asking you to DJ My Marathon!
For a donation of $30 you can also request/dedicate a song that will go on my marathon playlist that I’ll be listening to as I run through the 5 boroughs of New York City on November 6, 2011, just 65 days away! I’ll also be tweeting the songs and dedications the day of the marathon, as well as publishing the final marathon playlist on Spotify for people all over the world to enjoy too!
If I hit my goal of 11 minutes per mile, it will approximately take me 288 minutes to reach the finish line. That means I need about 82 songs to make it there! That’s a lot of music!
So please make a donation, request or dedicate a song, and help me reach the finish line!
Please use one of the links below to donate online quickly and securely plus learn more about my progress along the way. You’ll receive a confirmation of your donation by email and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation.
You can either leave a comment with the mile number and song title, or simply email it to me - michelle.deforest[at]gmail.com

Each donation to the LLS helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Nearly 958,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. I am hoping that my participation in Team In Training will help bring them hope and support.
Each donation to Camp Interactive help further their mission to empower inner-city youth through the inspiration of the outdoors and the creative power of technology. When urban teenagers step back into nature and forward into technology they gain invaluable skills, heighten their academic standing, and begin to realize more of life’s possibilities.
On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Camp Interactive, thank you very much for your support, and I greatly appreciate your generosity!

CORPORATE SPONSORS: STEP. RIGHT. UP.
Since I’ve been running endurance races for charity I’ve raised a large amount of money from incredibly generous individuals. But this time around (training for the one and only NYC Marathon on 11/6/11) I want to find a company that believes in supporting my efforts*, and more importantly supporting two organizations that are really and truly deserving or our support together: the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society working to cure cancer, and CampInteractive working to get inner-city youth back into nature and forward into technology.
So this is me shouting: IS YOUR COMPANY THE ONE!?!?
My ultimate goal: A corporate sponsor that can buck up $6000.
But I’m more than happy to break it up, too!
What do you get from me for donating a large chunk of change to two incredibly deserving and in-need charities other than an absolute fan for life??!?
- Every mention of my training, be it on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, RunKeeper, Nike+, Tumblr, LinkedIn, my TNT and CI fundraising pages, and more, will end with the #hashtag of your company’s liking.
- I’ll also run through 5 boroughs with your logo on me.
Please get in touch and I’ll explain why these two charities mean so much to me, and why you should support them too! michelle.deforest at gmail
*This isn’t to say that I don’t want your individual donations too, because I really, really, really do! Please donate here: http://www.mdfsmash.com/post/7543077104/runmdfrun
Running the NYC Marathon for Charity - I Need Your Support
The short: I’m running my first NYC marathon on November 6, 2001 to raise money for two great charities!
[Fundraising Update]: I’ve hit my goal for the LLS, but I’m still $4700 away from my CI goal! PLEASE HELP ME GET A LITTLE CLOSER WITH A DONATION!
[Training Update]: Long run milage the last few weeks - 13, 12, 18, 12, 17 - this weekend is 20!!
[DJ My Marathon]: Details here, but basically donate $30, pick/dedicate a song, I download + listen to it during the marathon! Spotify playlist in the works. #djmymarathon
TL;DR:
I’m training for and running the NYC Marathon this November for two very special charities near and dear to my heart: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and CampInteractive.
To support my efforts, and more importantly these amazing organizations, please make a donation today! My goal is to raise $6250.
Click one of these links to donate:
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (finding a cure for blood cancers!) - http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/nyc11/mdeforest
Camp Interactive (inspires and teaches under-served youth with technology and sports!) - http://www.crowdrise.com/cimarathon2011/fundraiser/michelledeforest
Split donations - via PayPal (michelle.deforest@gmail.com) or Venmo (mdf)
Training Update: I completed a 7 mile long run this past Sunday. It was hot (and I was a little slow :), but it was definitely a good run. Next long run goal is 8 miles!
ONE Marathon, TWO Charities.
When can I ever just do something, without really DOING IT?
Check it - I’m running the NYC Marathon (FOR REALS THIS TIME, WITH NO INJURIES), in support of two outstanding charities:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
and
As always, and with everything I pour myself into, meeting my goals is not possible without the support (moral, financial, and otherwise) of all the amazing people in my life, be it friends, family, fellow tumblrs, co-workers, and kind strangers on the Internet.
So, my plea for your support this time around: PLEASE help me reach my goal of raising $6,250 for these deserving charities ($5K for CI, 1,250 for LLS).
Donating is easy. Click one of these links!
Suggested donation: $29 for my 29th birthday on August 30.
Donate specifically to the LLS
Donate specifically to Camp Interactive
Donate via PayPal (Send money to: michelle.deforest@gmail.com)
If donating to PayPal or Venmo, I’ll split the donation between the two charities unless you request otherwise. Once I hit one of the goals, I’ll send the donation to the one I haven’t met yet. Once both goals have been met (and if they generosity continues!) I’ll begin splitting the donations again. (Plz note I won’t be able to issue you a specific tax-deductible receipt if you don’t through PayPal or Venmo, but I will eat the costs of the transactions.
Thanks again for your continued support! <3 you all!!

MSG’s donation pushed me up to my $3000 goal! With 12 days until the triathlon, I’m excited, and nervous, and hopeful that we can raise just a tiny bit more :) Donate here if you are so inclined: http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/wchtri09/mdeforest
SO CLOSE. You all have gotten me a long way and I really appreciate it. But I still need $200 to meet my goal! AND I only have TWO DAYS TO GET THERE!!!
As in, TOMORROW IS THE DEADLINE!
Donations can be made by card here: http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/wchtri09/mdeforest
And email me [michelle (dot) deforest (at) gmail] if you want to write a check or give cash. I can send those in till October.
All donations go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society whose mission it is to help wipe out blood cancers.![]()
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. LLS’s mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since the first funding in 1954, LLS has awarded more than $600 million in research funding.
And don’t forget the man I’m doing this in honor of:
Drew’s the strongest person I know and doing an incredible job at raising money for Livestrong, and inspiring many along the way while kicking Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in the ass. Let’s do our best to support him any and every way we can.
