A Cancer Perspective

With my mom going through cancer treatment, my creative mind has cancer in it.

Last week I recommended to Birchbox via twitter that it would be cool if they were to do a collaboration with the American Cancer Society’s “Look good…Feel Better” Program, which helps women going through chemo and radiation with their beauty regiment (how to deal w/ no hair, eyebrows and such). I would love to be able get my mom a Birchbox subscription geared towards her needs while going through chemo.

Then this morning I was thinking about how I could gamify cancer treatment. Would creating rewards for milestones like taking a walk every day, or eating certain foods, or taking medicine make cancer treatment suck less? Could it be done so that even in the midst of facing death you don’t feel like you’re losing, but still enjoying the fun of living? Could it be generalized but still remain respectful to those who are really having a tough time? Are there tools already out there that could be adapted like the Nike fuel band, or Fitbit, and all that needs to be written is a web/mobile app?

Just musings for now, but I’m sure I’ll be thinking about this more as my mom starts her chemo this week.
