A couple of thoughts as I use Hulu Desktop for the first time:
Browsing is ok, a little awkward for my instincts, and it’s definitely hard to locate new content (except for the video that starts playing before I ask it to). I’d end up going back to Hulu.com to look for new titles.
The quality of video streaming is pretty good, I’d say better than Hulu.com.
Pausing the video brings up a well-featured menu. In particular I like the browse function (above), that gives a nice large screen shot of where you are in the timeline. But, it took me a few seconds too long to figure out how to get back to the main menu.
Also, I’m not sure if I didn’t close out the last video I watched on Hulu.com, but when I pulled that particular video up in Hulu Desktop it did not queue it to the last position I watched the way Hulu.com does.
So far, I might consider using this, but that just means I have one more program open as I watch Hulu while doing other things.
In regards to the Boxee kerfluffle, I see them as competing for my attention, but the idea of Hulu having a place for me to browse YouTube, Blip, Next New Networks, and my own media seems slim to none. Also, while this is pretty, there’s no way for me to go full screen (unless I missed something), and I have a feeling this doesn’t work with Apple TV. Plus they are being pricks.
However, since I live and breathe media online and off, I’m interested to see what direction they develop this in.
